We’re looking for an experienced programmer to join our team and take charge of the online multiplayer components of the game. We’ve got big hearts and big ideas, and this is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in our nascent team. Reporting to Jonny Hopper (Co-Founder, Technical Director), this role is a bit of a hybrid! There are two key responsibilities to fill:
Help the game team build real-time multiplayer features
Build out and iterate on our backend server stack.
We realise this is a big ask but if either of these things is your jam we want to hear from you!
FROM DAY ONE WE WOULD LIKE YOU TO…
Start taking ownership over key multiplayer features
Learn about our (fairly low) server stack
Get stuck into the game and the studio
IN SIX MONTHS YOU WILL BE:
The go-to team member for networking and multiplayer queries
Optimising our real-time bandwidth usage
Building a resilient and robust live ops architecture
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WOULD:
Have worked on multiplayer games before
Love to learn and try new things even if they feel under qualified (we all feel like that some of the time)
Come armed with a strong technical background, where your intuition to the ‘what’ is backed up by the ‘why’.
Show willingness to do all the things, in order to Get Them Done.
On the client side, be at C++ Level: Brilliant, but not so Brilliant you use template metaprogramming, traits and std::range all the time.
Shipped a game as part of a team
Know clever things about SQL and Golang
Experience delivering a cross-platform multiplayer project
Not super-fussed about Object Oriented design
A FEW MORE BITS:
This role is an opportunity for you to make a significant contribution not only to the game but to our team and the company. Everyone at Glowmade has a voice, and it’s important to us that you feel empowered and are given the time and space to use it.
We’re based in Guildford, UK and we need to have you here with us onsite. We offer competitive wages and are an actively equal opportunities employer. If all of the above sounds exciting and you think you can fill this pivotal role, please get in touch. No agencies please!
