Carly Mills

Associate Producer

Carly is another central cog in the production squad, with her mystical realm of order encompassing sound and narrative. With years of experience in TV and Drama – even a little bit of film – she grounds our world nice and strong so we can reach for the stars. She’s also a phenomenal baker, the likes of which cannot be described – merely experienced. So let’s take a minute to get to know her, and with any luck she’ll bring you some traditional barmbrack as a thank you <3

Afternoon, Carly! What is it you do at Glowmade?

I’m an Associate Producer, also known as the Facilitator of Chaos. I outline various teams’ workload, then make sure they’re sticking to it and meeting deadlines as best as possible.

Now how would your mum describe your job?

“Aye, she’s working in The Games now!â€

How did you get to this point in your career?

Previous to Glowmade, I worked in film and TV drama. I started off as a runner and worked my way up to 2nd Assistant Director, where I corralled cast to set on time, organised the following day’s shoot, and made sure all the departments were talking to each other. It felt like a very transferable skillset, and I’m thrilled Glowmade felt the same way.

What made you want to pursue games?

I wanted to stay in a creative industry, and being a Guildford local, I couldn’t help but notice the games studios everywhere. The more I researched, the more of an interesting, innovative and collaborative environment game development seemed to be, so I started figuring out how I could get involved…

Share something you love doing outside of everything video games.

I’m a TV drama fiend, love a book, hugely enjoy watching stand-up comedy or theatre, and have a love/hate relationship with running to counterbalance my love/love relationship with almond criossants.

Who or what inspires you?

I’m always inspired by a good story – in any medium, be it game, film, book, or chatting in the kitchen while waiting for the kettle to boil.

Share something you appreciate about yourself. Give yaself a pat on the back, why don’t ya?

I think people’s greatest strength is usually also their weakness – I would say I am cool in a crisis, but it could be argued that I am too laid back!

Also, through many years working as a floor runner, if I make you a cup of tea once, I will remember how you take it for life.

Learn more and be better!

— Carly Mills, associate producer

If you could have been involved in the development of ANY game, which would it be?

Ours, of course! Though as a child I was a big Sonic fan, so anything with a super fast blue hedgehog.

What’s the best thing about working at Glowmade?

I’ve really enjoyed the sense of community, the creativity and collaborative environment.

What are your top tips for someone looking to get into games?

There’s an abundance of ways to show your enthusiasm for making games, be it writing a twine game, developing your own art portofolio or learning to code. Showing a passion goes a long way!

In your opinion, who is the cutest Glowmade pet?

I can’t possibly say!!!

(Alright, then, keep your secrets…)

If you had to pick one game to play for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I could play 20 Questions all day long…

What’s your guilty pleasure?

I don’t believe in guilty pleasures!

(Correct.)

There’s one biscuit left in the tin and it’s your favourite… what is it?

We have a biscuit tin??!
